One year ago not many eyes were on the black daughter of Passionate Ruler in the Summer Cup, but this year, she’s one of the most talked about going into the race series. The flighty mare has quickly made a name for herself in the past season and she’s done nothing but live up to it this season. Rattling off four wins already this season in the Cavallo Cup, Fantasy Cup, Rampallion Stakes and the Queen Cup*. Six of the mares ten starts so far this season have been in Horse Of The Year races and she’s been tangoing with the likes of Innocent Passion, Paranormal Hunger, Night Goddess, and In The Spotlight. If anything is fore sure, Passion Heart has been taking on some of the best of the best this season. The competition may be stiff in the Grade One Turf but she’s beaten the Devil’s Hourglass before, she’s taken down Handsome Tabby and Call Of The Wild before, and one can be for sure that she’ll show up and run her heart out in her final start of her career.
“She seems to know her days are numbered, and she hasn’t slacked off at all. She’s as determined as ever. I think everyone is going to be in for a real show this weekend.” Owner Tanner Grayson praised the mares works and progress leading up to the race.
“It would be perfect if she did come out of this the winner, it’s somewhat poetic for her to end her racing turnaround where it started.” Trainer Steve Wilson said when questioned on why to run the mare in a race where she could very well lose. “There is speed, and with that you will see her rating off of the leader. Although she won’t be giving them an easy lead.” Wilson continued.
When asked on whether or not Passion Heart would be a good mother the two laughed, “from what we’ve seen, Passion Heart may be just as cold to her foals as her mother was. But you really never know.”
The mare will be bred to the very successful sire, Hail To Prince for the Y15 season. “We’d be lying if we said that wasn’t the most anticipated foal of the year for us.” Tanner Grayson said.
